The gymnastic venue in Coimbra Placed in the middle of Coimbra, in the Heróis do Ul- tramar Square, the Pavilhão Multidesportos de Coimbra was inaugurated in April 2005. The venue has a field of play that takes up an area of 50x30 meters with 14 meters height and 3 work- benchs. It hosts up to 2300 spectators. |

Cousins:
Carra and I decided to attend her cousins (my nieces) international gymnastic event in Coimbra Portugal. Nikki and 
Melissa have been in gymnastics for about 8 or so years, and this is not their first international competition! (Check out the pic.)
Melissa is on the bottom, Kari Rockhill in the middle and Nikki on the top. This pic came from their Silver Medal at "The Freedom Cup, Wash DC, Feb 2006. They are the Skyview Jr Elite Trio. (Pic by my brother in law Rick.)
A Plan is Hatched:
...So, when we heard they were going to Portugal, we made travel plans to spend four days in the Coimbra area. We will attend some of the competition and do some sightseeing and exploring of Portugese cuisine (especially the cheese.)
Some of the things Carra and I hope to do:
- Have custard tarts (Pastel de nata) shortly after our airplane lands in Lisbon at pastéis de Belém (Belem)
- See the Lisbon Cathedral (Santa Maria Maior de Lisboa or Sé de Lisboa) the oldest church in the city the beginning of construction (1147)
- Subject Vic to "Fado" over dinner (I suppose) in Coimbra
- Explore the Roman ruins at Conímbriga
- Visit the city of Porto (where port wine originates)
